about us
Bourne Bulldogs Basketball Club is more than just a youth basketball club—we are a community committed to nurturing young talent, promoting fitness, and building the next generation of confident, team-oriented young athletes. Founded in May 2024 in Bourne, Lincolnshire, our mission is to deliver first-class basketball training to children aged 7+, while creating an environment where fun, teamwork, and competition go hand-in-hand.
Our Mission
At Bourne Bulldogs, we believe in the power of sports to transform lives. Our club exists to:
Teach the fundamentals of basketball in a way that is fun, safe, and challenging.
Develop important life skills like teamwork, communication, leadership, and confidence.
Foster a love for the game in children of all skill levels, from complete beginners to experienced players.
Our Story
Having retired from playing competitive basketball, in 2022 my family and I moved to the Bourne area, excited to settle into a new community. However, as a basketball-loving family, we were surprised to find there wasn't a local basketball club. To give my children the chance to play, I found myself traveling to other clubs, coaching them along the way. It became clear that Bourne needed its own basketball club, not just for my children, but for others in the community who shared a passion for the game. I started a local Facebook group to gauge interest, and the response was overwhelming. Bourne Bulldogs Basketball Club was born out of that community enthusiasm, and the rest is history!
Our Community
We are proud to be rooted in the local community of Bourne and the surrounding areas. Our goal is to create a safe space where children can learn, grow, and connect with peers, while parents can trust that their child is in a supportive and positive environment. We’re dedicated to not only developing our young athletes, but also building a basketball culture that brings people together and inspires lifelong participation in the sport.
Our Team
At the heart of Bourne Bulldogs is our dedicated coaching and management team.
Martin Read, our head coach, brings 35 years of experience to the club. As a Basketball England Level 2 qualified coach, former national league player, and a coach for the Great Britain ladies' team, Martin’s wealth of knowledge ensures that every player receives top-tier coaching.
